Shenzhen Trip...

Hi everyone I'm back from Shenzhen and I'm going to write a LONG post on it, so if you don't mind... Because we have taken too many pictures and I really want to show it all to you guys, so I've decided to put up a slide show for each group of event. Yes, I enjoyed myself a hell lots except for the pollutions, dirty streets(due to littering and SPITTING), beggars... Overall I think it was a pretty nice place... The weather was cool, it's like being in a 24 hours air-conditioned place except for the filty air.

On the way....

My Hotel Room....

Day 1, when we alighted from the plane, we were wondering why is the airport so tiny and security guards were EVERYWHERE, they even escort you to the washroom and made sure all the sidegates were locked and the only exits were the main ones. Cool isn't it? BUT don't be deceived, the moment we stepped out of the airport, it was SO DIFFERENT. Illegal cabby drivers clustered around us asking us where we want to go etc... They just won't give up and the worst part is that because it's our virgin trip there, we couldn't find the taxi-stand. It was in a stranded corner of the airport. One of the "fake" cabbie driver then claimed that he would be running on meter so Baby assume that it is one of the normal legal taxi. But we were so wrong, it was a fraud. It wasn't a taxi at all but some old rundown car... He conned us of RMB$400=SG$90 but thank goodness we reached our hotel safe and sound. Initially, he wanted the money before we get off but we insisted NO and demanded that we alighted safely with our luggage first before we handing them the money. So scary.... When we asked the hotel staffs, they said that it only cost RMB$150 to the airport... Those conmen are so horrible.....Yucks. But the hotel that we stayed in was beautiful. It's huge with a living room and bedroom separated. Cool... And it's right smack in the shopping district.

The next day, we went shopping near our hotel. Goodness, in Taiwan there is Xi Men Ding but in Shenzhen there is Dong Men Ding. If you think that China people are outdated and not fashionable then you are so wrong, they are so trendy. Almost everything there is so nice and for a moment I thought I was in Taiwan. The shoes are like DIRT CHEAP... I bought 5 pairs but if I didn't take into considerations that Mummy would scream at me when I get back, I would have gotten more... Haha... About SG$12 for a pair of boots alright... CHEAP!!! Not forgetting, there is a few shopping malls that sell shoes ONLY... Does it make your eyes sparkle? But in contrast to that, apparel are expensive over there. It would be a advantage if you know how to speak cantonese over there... :) Oh and their service is not bad unlike some other places in China(Guangzhou) whereby the service SUCK... One day is definately not enough to shop the whole area because the place is HUGE with hidden little shopping mall all over. Not forgetting to mention that the shopping malls there doesn't close till 11.30 p.m. So cool right, unlike in Singapore, all the malls closes at about 9.30 p.m. But one disadvantage is that in those small shopping malls MANY people would pester you like bugs, asking you to do nails, hair, tattoo... And it is really SUPER IRRITATING because they would follow you wherever you go.

Other then those places at Dong Men Ding, we also went to a few of the upmarket places. Pricing was such a huge difference. We can pay SG$10 for a pair of heels in Dong Men Ding but in the upmarket malls, fat hope... SG$10 is not even enough for you to have tea at Haagen Dazs.

Oh and one more thing is make sure you have sufficient china dollars when you go there BECAUSE you can't sign your credit card over there. They don't accept Mastercard, Visa or American Express, they only accept Unionpay(Some China Bank thing) even in those upmarket places. Felt kind of helpless because everywhere we went, we would be worried that we might not have enough cash to spend the next day. And also make sure you have some Singapore dollars just in case, then maybe you can go to the China bank to exchange for china dollars.

For the last day, we went to the Window of the World. It is a place whereby it has a miniature collection of the world's greatest landmark. It's like going around the world in a day... :) FUN!!! A pity that my camera almost went flat, if not there would be even more pictures...

All in all, I think this is a very interesting experience and I'm looking forward for my next trip up to Shenzhen again.

And before I forget, one disgusting thing I want to share is that I went to a washroom at some cafe and apparently the cubicle was dirty so I didn't want to use it. Guess what did the cleaner do? She went in with a dirty mop that she used to mop the floor previously, mopped the whole cubicle floor and followed by the toilet bowl seat with the same mop... OMG!!!

Wedding bells

Among my family and friends there are at least 5 couples getting married, my brother, cousin, Jeff, Kenneth and Ai Hui... It's so exciting seeing them getting themselves ready for the big day, from gowns to dinner venue to wedding cards and of course not forgetting all the dos and don'ts. My brother's wedding is on the 08/08/2008, such a nice number isn't it? I'm so happy for them seriously. He and his girlfriend had been together since they were in secondary 2. Goodness, that's freaking long... Sometimes I wonder how would my own wedding be? I want it to be like those wedding in the soap operas, grand, dreamy and romantic type... And I want my gowns to be hot, sexy and drop dead gorgeous kind... The thought of it makes me so excited... Haha... I should start searching for good tailors to custom-make the evening gowns that I'm suppose to wear on my brother's wedding. Planning to make 2,one red and one blue, one for my brother's wedding and the other for my cousin's. Any good tailors to recommend?

This is MADNESS!!!
I had a whole week full of datelines... Had to summit my English Research Paper on Tuesday, 10 pages mind you, excluding all the 4 drafts, research materials and annotations. It's insane...
This is my end product, I'm so proud of myself.
Today is the dateline for Organization Communication Articles. We are suppose to do a summary and reflection of 4-5 pages for each article. We have 2 articles to do, Journal of Black Studies and Obama's Speech. The worst part is that we didn't have sufficient time to complete... Had to stay up the whole night to finish it up, didn't sleep at all. Was like a walking zombie when I went to school this morning, not forgetting that I had 2 tests today too which I didn't study at all... Goodness....
Thank god, almost everything is over, now leaving my statistics assignments which are due this friday. I'm going to start soon, Sigh...

Next week is my doomsday, my final semester examination. I have not even touch my books yet. Oh my god... I'm stressed... But after that, HOLIDAYS... Would be going to Shenzhen from 25 - 29 April... Can't wait....

New goals, new life

I've some new goals in my life
  1. Save at least $200 every month. My friends can do it, I'm very sure I can do it too...
  2. Lose a couple of pounds.

How am I going to go about doing it? I've already started on it although this is only my FIRST day

  1. Bringing my own lunch to school - sandwich (It's cheap and it's healthy)
  2. Climbing up 11 flights of stairs back to my house instead of taking the elevator.

The benefits of stair climbing...

  1. Improve the amount of 'good cholesterol' in the blood
  2. Increases the leg power
  3. Build bone density
  4. Significant contribution to 30 minutes of daily activities
  5. Build thigh muscles and buttocks
  6. Can burn up to 10 calories per minute

Saturday

Went to catch a movie "Street King" last Saturday. I think it's quite good. Lots of action, my friends were saying that it is quite gruesome but I thought it was alright... Keanu Reeves is so cute... Oh my god...

Sunday
Finally completed our very last project of this semester... Thank goodness... Let's keep our fingers cross and hope that our grades are fine...

Now... Let me concentrate on my other assignments which are due this week.. (Take a look at my Hello Kitty Post-it... It's all over my lappy...) So many things to do but not enough time...

  1. ESL 408 Research Paper and Powerpoint slides
  2. Org Com Articles - 4 to 5 pages each
  3. 2 Tests - Organizational Com and Interpersonal Com
  4. Statistics Assignments - Chapter 10 and 11

Happy Shopping...

Went shopping at Far East Plaza today while waiting for Baby to come and pick me up today... Baby regretted suggesting the place... Because when I'm alone, I tend to shop ALOT....
My loot for the day... This dress costs only $10. Tell me any reason why I shouldn't get it... It's DIRT CHEAP!!! Shoes Shoes Shoes... I can't help it.... Mummy burnt a hole in the pocket of my other pair of shorts... This is kind of a replacement for the old one...
Haha... Ya, I know I know... I have hundred and one excuses to splurge on retail therapy....

The next stop was the new Terminal 3 at the airport... Alright... I'm just being vain... Haha... Love Baby's car... (Please ignore the unglam slippers... Hee...) This is my first time going to the new terminal.. It's so cool... So many resturants and it's so pretty...

I want to eat the lobsters in the tank... Roar...

Boon or Bane

I'm down with a bad cold... Feel like a BIG GERM BUG... Sigh...

Looking back, I've almost completed the second semester of my university already but it feels like yesterday... Time flies, and in no time you would see me blogging here about my graduation(Hopefully). Can't wait for the day to arrive... Oh my god...

All thanks to Fishy who helped us to register for our courses next semester(Spring 2008). Yeah... We will be in the same class again except for Huiching, who couldn't register in time, what a pity...The semester will be spilt into 2, 2 modules each and we will be taking 4 modules in total. For the first half of the semester, we will have to go to school EVERYDAY but thank goodness, the classes start at 11.45a.m. but end at about 4.30-5.00p.m. HOWEVER... For the second half of the semester, I will only be having 3 days of classes, Wednesday and Friday I'm off which means more time for my love ones? But according to Rachel, next semester would be more stressful with more tests and exams. So I was wondering whether it's a boon or bane for me because for this semester I'm already very stressed up with all the piling loads of work . Wonder how will the next semester be...

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed...

Tiring weekend...

Went to the temple yesterday to pay respect to my late grandpa at 6a.m. Totally forgotten all about it until Sunday, when my friends and I were having this conversation about paying respect to our forefathers. Damn... Got to get up so early and I could only catch a couple of hours of rest whereas my poor brother couldn't catch any at all because he came back home rather late the previous night. When I got up, I felt like a zombie... Haha... This is a yearly event whereby most of our relatives will gather at the temple with offerings for my ancestors. I was overwhelmed by the smoke caused by all the burnings and everything. Oh gosh, this is one of the major cause of air pollution, I suppose. Hated it when I got choke on the smoke and my eyes were all watery and teary... After that, we decided on having breakfast before heading home. Upon reaching home, I zonked out immediately...
Slepted till 2 plus when I suddenly remembered that I have a project meeting at 3p.m. Showered and cabbed down immediately, only to realise that there is somebody later than me... Haha... Booked the discussion room in the Jurong Library for 5 hours, which was about $30... But at least we were quite productive this time round, so no complains(except...) Haha...
After the meeting, I cabbed down to Bugis to meet Baby, Ivan and Lynette for my favourite steamboat dinner. Bady and I had a miscommunication and he thought that I was in the Bugis Library instead...*roll eyes* But it's alright, because Baby made it up to me by ordering many plates of golden mushrooms (my favourite) Seriously feel that I should kick away my cabbing habit because in that case, I can save up the money to be spend somewhere else like shopping or holidays... Especially when the cab fare is increasing nowadays...
Although this time round our presentation seemed to be quite last minute, but at least we got quite a good grade, A-... Finally, 2 projects down... Way to go, people... Let us work harder for our next project....

Virgin trip to Jurong Library

Went to the Jurong National Library to borrow some books on my research paper. Oh goodness gracious, I felt like a mountain tortoise. This is my very first time to borrow books via the self-service kiosk. Oh my god... The technology is so advance, it's so cool... I was so excited and Baby was so amazed by my ignorance. Haha... (So bimbotic right...) I think the librarian must be wondering where did this ditz(ME!!!) come from, Mars? How come she has never been to a library in her entire life? Oh well... I must admit that I USED to hate going to a library because it seemed to me like a boring place but now my whole perception of going to the library has changed 360 degrees. I LOVE the library now and I want to go there soon... Was suggesting to Baby that maybe we can try dating in the library too... Haha...
